The main objective of Art in Marylebone is to encourage the appreciation of art in its many forms and to celebrate the fact that Marylebone is the one of the most exciting residential areas in London, renowned for its rich cultural history.

All art is for sale - but visitors will also be able to vote for the best artist in the show and have a chance of winning a holiday in an Italian art hotel if they do so. The most voted artist will be awarded the “Eliza” statuette in a ceremony with Peter York on Sunday afternoon.

The show will take place at 60 Paddington Street, in the theatre of the American InterContinental University. Prices range from £30 to £3000, and art comes in all shapes and sizes – oils, acrylics, prints, sculpture, photography and ties. And under the expert tutelage of Simon Borland and his colleagues, you may be able to learn a routine in one day. 'Since the day I started teaching, I realised one thing, and that one thing was more important than anything else', says Simon. 'People want to get good – fast! Jive Nation uses a combination of techniques and technology to get you there faster.'

Jive Nation will be offering demos and taster classes in Modern Jive, West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop and Swing. There will also be frequent bouts of free dancing, not to mention salsa lessons and Greek dancing demos. Simon says he is going to teach the whole world to dance - and what better place to start than Marylebone. Don't worry if strutting your stuff gets addictive. You can get a regular fix at Jive Nation's club night at a host of venues across London.

We will hopefully have a traffic camera that can take photographs of the children for the badges. Helping this along will be PCSO Steve - who is our larger than life PCSO character.

Our other stall will have crime prevention advice around motor vehicle crime and cycle theft - plus general safety advice. We will be able to security mark satellite navigation equipment and cycles, so please bring your bikes along.

Free dance class for absolute beginners: 12.30pm til 1.00pm Dancing from 1.00pm till 2.00pm Free dance class for absolute beginners: 2pm till 2.45pm Dancing till end of the Fayre

Born and raised in Cuba where children dance themselves out of the womb, Nelson Batista pioneered Salsa in the UK in the late 80’s. Over the past twenty years, Nelson has played an instrumental role in developing the Salsa scene across the UK without compromising the authenticity of the Cuban dance.

Although there are many good dancers in London , there are few who are also exceptional teachers. Nelson possesses the rare ability to articulate and clearly break down the most intricate of moves, and further to weave together seemingly disconnected moves into an elegant fluidity.

For the last two years, Nelson's Salsa stand at the Marylebone Summer Fayre summoned people to shake off their worries and revel in the luxury of dancing in the street, right in the middle of the West End. Not much of a Salsero? Not to worry - there will be a couple of free lessons for those who are new to Salsa dancing.

From the DJ booth Nelson will spin selections from his vast treasure trove of music, a true testament to his passion for high quality Salsa, and an absolute pleasure for Salsa connoisseurs and music lovers alike.

  97. Paulie

    Paulie

Paulie are offering a 10% discount for the Marylebone Summer Fayre.

    PAULIE COMES TO MARYLEBONE

PAULIE IS A relatively new name and label, conceived by Paul Davis whoalready has two London shops – Little Venice and Temple Fortune.

Now Paulie is coming to town, to Marylebone, where Davis opened his third, flagship store in January 2009, at 13 Hinde Street, London W1, a veritable success story in the current economic climate.

Marylebone is set to be the next new shopping destination.

Paulie, a destination store, will create a new spirit at the erstwhile Ghost shop with hot Brit artist Damien Hirst as his new neighbour.

Paulie’s West End presence is in keeping with their customer profile – ‘an individual, independent woman who appreciates a ‘villagey’ ambiance.

“Marylebone will be a new experience for Paulie and the move a great stepping stone in creating a brand image and style which can be developed and sold worldwide,” believes Davis, who designs 60 per cent of the collection under his own ‘Paulie’ label as well as sourcing edgy new labels at home and in Europe.

“We pride ourselves on finding small, individual companies who are commercial yet with a creative twist and reflect what’s happening that particular season,” believes Davis.

Rather than phoning customers when new pieces arrive, Paulie prefers to text them, finding this less intrusive.

“Whether she is housewife or career-woman, our customer is stylish ambitious and seeking innovation.  She is smart, media savvy and shrewd,” says Davis.

We may be a nation of shopkeepers, but there is always room for the right one.

“With so many multiples and large organisations, we seem to have lost the art of service and creativity.  Paulie will offer both,” promises Paul.

And the monochromatic Paulie logo’d carrier bag is destined to become the wannabee tote of the season.

  104. Regents Park Photographics Ltd

"Like many American photojournalists who served Magnum Archives in the forties and the fifties, Lucas is a self taught photographer whose work is mainly concerned with the “here and now”. The act of documenting life, people’s portraits and still nature is narrated through the lenses of a camera the artist always carries around at all times. Life happens when we are busy making plans, said John Lennon. And so thinks Lucas. The pursuit of spontaneity in its purist and naked form shall reign on all artistic motives in his art.

Lucas portraits also reflect on today's society and the pursuit of physical perfection it is obsessed with. It points to the common feeling of uneasiness and self-consciousness one experiences every once in a while when confronted with his/her own reflection. By portraying personalities rather than faces, he shifts the focus on inner beauty and on the concept of self-acceptance"

Regents Park Photographics are collaborating with Daniel Galvin to donate a wonderful prize towards our Teenage Cancer Trust Competition. This prize involves a complimentary consultation followed by a free stylish blow dry and a glass of champagne. You will then have a free photo shoot with Guy Lucus in his studio in Regents Park. We are known for using the very best organic ingredients which are all fairly traded, great natural aromas and distinctive packaging, Ruby Red is now available in Harvey Nichols, Planet Organic, Amazon as well as over 75 independent retailers.

At Ruby Red, we believe that looking good isn't about an ingredient list as long as your arm, it's about keeping things simple by being kind to your skin with pure and organic natural body care. That's why none of our products contain synthetic fragrances, artificial colours or animal-derived nasties - just 100% natural organic goodness. And when we say organic, that is exactly what we mean. Every formulation is freshly hand made and wrapped by us at the Ruby Red workshop in North London.

We are cute but very planet friendly, so along with organic ingredients, we only use recyclable or bio degradable packaging, making us a nice brand indeed.  We also believe in only buying fairly traded raw ingredients, it means that we get a nice warm feeling and they get a living wage, it’s a fair exchange

    Wellbeing of Women

    Wellbeing of Women

1 in 2 women in the UK will suffer from a gynaecological problem that will devastate and, in some cases, claim their lives.

Wellbeing of Women is the only UK charity dedicated to funding research that will benefit these women and their families.  We also support the training and development of specialists who will diagnose and treat these women. We are located within the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and work in partnership with them.

Over the past 40 years, as Birthright and then Wellbeing, we have invested in funding the very best in medical research and training, resulting in some remarkable progress.  Every woman living in the UK since 1964 will have benefited from advances in healthcare made possible by Wellbeing of Women such as ultrasound and cervical cancer screening.

Whether they have trouble conceiving, suffer intensely painful periods or gynaecological cancer, Wellbeing of Women is the only charity dedicated to solving all of these. Yet, despite our best efforts, we still receive more research grant applications than we are able to fund.
